• 2017-10-17 Association of Blood Transfusion From Female Donors With and Without a History of Pregnancy With Mortality Among Male and Female Transfusion Recipients "Receipt of red blood cell transfusion from female donors with a history of pregnancy was associated with increased mortality among male recipients; further research is needed to replicate these findings, determine their significance, and define the underlying mechanism."

• 2000-03 Gender Is an Essential Determinant of Blood Transfusion in Patients Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Procedure "Gender is an independent essential determinant of blood transfusion in CABG patients, and it may interact with age, weight, preoperative Hct, duration of surgery, and other factors in determining the probability of transfusion."

Note that neither of these studies appear to have involved any transgender people, nor do they offer any kind of theory as to the mechanism behind the problem (and therefore which aspect of gender is causing the problem) – meaning that its applicability to transgender people, specifically trans women recipients, is yet to be determined.
