The fediverse or fedisphere is any system of computing systems that connect together as peers without a central server or directory, also referred to as a "federated network". It may also refer to those systems which are compatible with (and connect to) a specific protocol, such as "the GNU Social fediverse" or "the Diaspora fediverse", although those are increasingly federated with the larger ActivityPub social networking fediverse.
It is most commonly used in federated social networking.
