Overview
Assisted living is an umbrella category covering a lot of specific areas:
- long term care
- home health services
- adult care homes
- nursing facilities (aka nursing homes)
The majority of these services are geared towards the elderly; the next most common group served is the physically impaired. Care for the mentally impaired (including those with low-functioning varieties of autism) seems to be among the services less commonly mentioned.

- the autism page has some information on assisted living for individuals with autism (most assisted living facilities are designed either for the elderly or drug rehabilitation; "developmental issues" are a 3rd-place market, and autism is a subset of that, so autism-oriented facilities tend to be harder to find)
