Overview
Elgg is a free/open source social networking web application. It is written in PHP and uses MySQL for database operations.

- Problem: As of 2009-02-19, the privacy settings don't work for uploaded documents. I created a public group, then uploaded a document marked as "private" to the group. I was able to retrieve the document on another browser without logging in.
