  • Question: how do you add someone who already has Signal installed? The only way I can find to add a new person is to "invite" them, which just sends them a text inviting them to install Signal.
    • Answers:
      • desktop app:
        • "search" for their phone number, and then send them a message. This doesn't work; it only searches content of messages already received.
        • Go into a group conversation and add a new user. Enter the phone number of the person you want to add, and invite them. (This seems to function independently of the phone's Contacts data.)
      • mobile app:
        • Unverified: It may be that you just add people to the regular Android address book and they will show up in Signal if they also have Signal installed. This does not seem to work.

  • Question: After initiating a conversation via entering someone's phone number, how do you give that contact a name via the desktop app?

  • Question: Why is there no right-click menu?
    • Update (2022-11-04): There is now a right-click menu associated with single messages, but that's all.
    • There should be right-click options to give a contact a name, delete, start discussion, etc.

  • Question: Why are there no hover-overs on the desktop app to tell you what the icons mean/do?

  • Question: how do you create a chat group in the desktop app?
    • Answer: in the bar on the left, click the pencil-pad icon opposite your avatar, then select users to include from your contacts. (You can only add people who are already in your contacts, which apparently can only be done via the mobile app (as of 2021-04-11).

  • Question: how do you add or edit contacts from the desktop app?
    • Should be able to right-click on someone's avatar, in any context, to add them.
