About
The RipplePay concept seems to have evolved from a user-oriented, distributed system to a service being sold to large banks. The major phases:
- RippleWiki (last updated 2011-11-20, last online in 2012): "Ripple is a project to build a new kind of monetary system based on the trust present in our ordinary social and business relationships."
- About Ripple ("classic" RipplePay): p2p personal credit concept
- ripple.com: blockchain-based banking services, offered under the brand-name "Ripple".

Notes
The idea of Hawala seems like a non-computer-oriented version of this, with brokers instead of everything being peer-to-peer. In practice, a RipplePay site might be acting kind of like a Hawala broker.
