A message box is a simple form of dialog box intended only to present some information and allow the user to indicate when they have finished reading, typically via clicking on an "Ok" button. Some message boxes also give the user some choice in how to proceed, typically via additional buttons (such as "Cancel" or "Yes" and "No"), though these are perhaps more specifically termed "choice boxes".
