Overview

This page is for information about the 1987 Nissan Maxima. The notes so far are from Woozle's station wagon, but most of it should apply to the sedan version as well.

This page is a seed article. You can help HTYP water it: make a request to expand a given page and/or donate to help give us more writing-hours!

Woozle's Notes

Radio Wiring

There are several parts to the wiring, all of which (I think) normally plug directly into the back of the factory Nissan radio/cassette player.

speaker outs

The Crutchfield adapter brings the connections out with these colors (stripes are black):

white
white + stripe
grey
grey + stripe
green
green + stripe

power and control 1

-1- -2- -4- --- ---
-3- --- -5- --- ---
1 pink / red ACCESSORIES POWER
2 red / white HEADLIGHT indicator (dimmer)
3 black GROUND
4 red / green stripe BATTERY (always on)
5 green / white stripe / red dots no idea

power and control 2

I ended up cutting off one of these connectors and putting quick-disconnects on the wires.

Remaining blue connector (left to right, with latch on top):

  • pink / red dots - no idea; not used
  • red / white stripe - no idea; not used

Loose wires:

  • yellow / red dots - attached to one quick disconnect (purpose to be re-figured out)
  • orange / blue stripe / red dots - attached to one quick disconnect (purpose to be re-figured out)

antenna

Crutchfield's adapter kit for the Nissan includes an adapter for this cable. It's not a perfect solution, however.

EQ connectors

These cables come from the EQ module (probably optional). Unfortunately most car radios don't seem to have a pre-amp out/in (is that a high-end $ thing?), so I've had to abandon the EQ for now :-( but I did figure out what each of the pins were for. The connectors are male 1/2" DIN connectors; you can buy matching sockets from Digi-Key. Note to self: find part numbers.
