Family Support Network of Northern Piedmont

Overview

The Family Support Network of Northern Piedmont is the affiliate of the Family Support Network of North Carolina which covers Chatham, Durham, Frankin, Granville, Orange, Person, Vance, and Warren Counties. Founded in 1991, it provides support and information to families of children with special needs, include developmental delays, physical disabilities, at-risk characteristics, behavioral disorders, chronic illness and terminal illness diagnosis. The organization is non-profit and all services are free.

Mission

To enhance the lives of children (birth to age 21) with special needs, chronic illness and who are at risk of developmental disabilities by supporting and empowering their families and the professionals who serve them.

Programs

Parent-to-parent matching: Research has shown that these relationships are particularly valuable to parents of children with special needs. Parents gain long term from developing the habit of getting information from other parents who have gone before them. The systems, including the school systems and early intervention are difficult to navigate alone. Parents who are armed with information and skills they’ve learned from others are more likely to be better advocates for their children.
