For information about IBM laptops, see Lenovo.

Quick Facts

  • IBM created the original Personal Computer (IBM PC), from which modern PCs are derived.
  • IBM's laptop division has been sold to Lenovo, a large Chinese company
  • Although the name of the rebellious computer HAL 9000 in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey can be derived by replacing each letter in "IBM" with the one preceding it alphabetically, this is not how HAL 9000 was named and HAL's behavior was not intended as a commentary on IBM or the reliability of its machines.
