About

An audio interface is a piece of computer hardware which supports high-quality conversion of analog signals to digital data (ADC) and back (DAC), and is therefore sometimes also referred to as an ADAC. They often support more than 2 channels (a stereo pair) of simultaneous conversion, to allow recording from multiple instruments and microphones or from multitrack analog equipment.

Manufacturers

Since these devices are a bit of a niche/professional market, they are generally not made by the same companies that make most computer or musical equipment.
