The Hughes Center for Exceptional Children is a residential psychiatric treatment facility owned and operated by Psychiatric Solutions. It is located in Danville, VA. It is a campus style facility with 56 beds, serving males and females ages 13 to 22 diagnosed with mental retardation and an Axis I diagnosis or pervasive developmental disorder/autism. This facility has on staff a psychiatrist, a pediatrician, licensed therapists and many nurses, behavioral aides and administrative staff who are instrumental in the care and welfare of the residents.

The Center works to help young men and women learn how to be successful at home, at school and in the community. The Center also operates a day school under the name The Hughes Educational Center, providing 16 slots for students ages 5 to 22. The main focus of the day school is youth with mental retardation or with pervasive developmental disorders including Autism and Asperger's.
