About

Federated video sharing combines the ideas of video sharing and network federation, in which software running on different servers controlled by different entities share data via a common federation protocol without the need for any central service to manage the connections.

Just off the top of my head (more later as I find them):

  • MediaGoblin is working on federation for at least the social aspects of its software (users can leave comments on shared media)
  • Hubzilla, which already federates via several protocols (mainly Zot), has extensions for video sharing via WebTorrent

Notes

from Woozle:

  • I have a Hubzilla instance but haven't yet tried the video plugin. It looks like they're having trouble on the seeding end.
  • I started trying to install MediaGoblin, but ran into issues (not a brick wall yet).
