About
BitTorrent is both the name of a file sharing system (which includes both the BitTorrent protocol, the .torrent file format, and the torrent tracker) and the software which first implemented it.
It can also refer to:
- the files downloaded via the BitTorrent protocol ("I downloaded a torrent of that TV show, so we can watch it now.")
- the act of either uploading or downloading such files ("I'm torrenting some movies right now, which may be using bandwidth.")
- Uploading tends to happen automatically as a result of downloading, due to the nature of the system.
- a .torrent file, which acts as a sort of "key" to retrieve the desired files from the internet
