elevator cable

"Alas, elevator cable strong enough for a space elevator does not yet exist." Hasn't that problem now been solved with Buckminsterfullerene? I seem to recall hearing about a contest where prototype space elevators were being developed, and that the main point of the exercise was to work out the kinks in manufacturing while gradually scaling up towards the full-size orbital version. --Woozle 18:02, 15 September 2008 (EDT)
