Overview

It is possible to use MediaWiki to quickly build and maintain a web site that is "outward-looking", i.e. it is not really a wiki but is only edited by a small number of people and is "read-only" for everyone else.

This was done for the PsyCrit web site by creating a new skin and modifying it to present a much simpler interface to most users, while still retaining the ability for administrators to log in and edit (using the standard skin, which is now "hidden").

See "PsyCrit/archive/skin" for an explanation of how the skin was modified.
