Overview

Internet Relay Chat (or IRC) refers to any of the following:

  • an open protocol which allows multiple computer users to exchange text messages in realtime in a "chat room" environment, i.e. where all users "in the room" can see all messages sent to the room
  • the use of the IRC protocol to communicate with other computer users
