Technically "MR" (mental retardation) is a type of "DD" (developmental disability), but the terms "ICF MR" and "ICF MR/DD" seem to be used almost interchangeably within the service provider community.

In order to reduce ambiguity, HTYP will be using the following rules for applying these terms:

  • A facility specializing in MR but also accepting other forms of DD will be categorized both as ICF/MR and ICF/DD.
  • A facility which only accepts MR patients will be categorized as ICF/MR only.
  • Unless specifically stated otherwise, we will assume that a facility calling itself "ICF MR" is specializing in MR rather than excluding DD.
