This is a record of the message I sent to eBay on 2006-11-23 via their spam-reporting web page, and the response I received. I've cleaned up the formatting of the spam message somewhat, so it wouldn't scroll off the right side of the page. I've also replaced the period after "blogs" with an html entity so the spam filter won't prevent my posting this here. (I suppose eventually the spammers will figure that out too...) The eBay message appears to be essentially auto-generated, as the reply does not indicate an understanding that I did not actually receive the spam via email. --Woozle 15:39, 13 December 2006 (EST)

Hello,

Thank you for contacting eBay regarding an email you received.

While the email may appear to be associated with or sent by eBay, it is not. At this time we have been unable to link the sender of this message to an account registered on eBay. You have the option of reporting this email to the sender's Internet Service Provider for their further review and investigation.

At this time, you should also consider blocking this email address through your email program. Normally, this can be accomplished by setting mail filters. Doing this should eliminate repeat emails from this address entering your inbox. For instructions on setting up filters, you should review the help section of your email program or contact your email provider.

If you have any doubt about whether an email message is from eBay, please forward it immediately to spoofspam@spamebayspam.spamcom and do not respond to it or click on any of the links in the email message. Please do not change the subject line or forward the email as an attachment.

To help you better protect yourself from fake eBay and PayPal Web sites, we have developed a feature for the eBay Toolbar called "Account Guard." Account Guard includes an indicator of when you are on an eBay or PayPal Web site or a known spoof (or "phishing") site, buttons to report fake eBay Web sites, and a password notification feature that warns you when you may be entering your eBay password on an unverified site.

To learn more about the eBay Toolbar with Account Guard go to www.ebay.com, click on "Downloads" at the bottom of the page, and then click on the "eBay Toolbar" link.

Once again, thank you for alerting us to the email you received. Your efforts help keep eBay a safe and fair place to trade.

Regards,

eBay SafeHarbor
